Hot off the press:
04/15/02 - Big news!!!!
As I am sure most of you know I have been out of work for a little over five months since Avnet Electronics bought Kent Electronics. Those five months have been filled with calling, emailing, surfing job sites….calling, emailing, surfing job sites….calling, emailing, surfing job sites. Well, I think you get the idea. It really has been tough to keep a positive attitude when you look for a job for that long, and don't see much activity!!! On the upside it has been wonderful to have a wife like Juliene. She has been nothing but supportive, encouraging, and forgiving of my less than cheery attitude. Well, the wait is over! I was offered a job to work with the Department of Corrections (DOC) for the State of Oregon, and I accepted it. Yep, I did say Oregon, and the Department of Corrections. I know the next question is whether I will be working as a prison guard or a visiting inmate. Of course neither statement is true. I will be working with the Information Systems group responsible for supporting the DOC. In fact I will be working with a team that is just started in moving their legacy Cobol systems to a web based offering. They are in the beginning stages of their project, and I am very excited about the opportunity.
As you can probably realize it is going to be very difficult to leave Houston. I have been here all my life except three years of my 31, and Juliene has lived here for nine years. Juliene and I both will miss the Tex-Mex food, and hey we may have to open a restaurant if we can’t handle the food there. Guess you can tell we like this type of food. Of course the food is not what we will miss most! Juliene and I will miss all of our friends and family that live in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. Juliene on the other hand is from Oregon as you know, and is very excited about spending time with her family that lives there. In fact, I will be staying with some of them until we can get the house sold. Thanks Joyce & Tiny!!!!!
Well, the sate capital for Oregon is Salem, and this is where I will be working. This means we will most likely live there, or in some small surrounding town. This is approximately an hour south of Portland, and has a population close to 335,000 in the Salem Metro area. It is very beautiful country!!!! An hour from the beach, and four hours from the snow, hiking trails everywhere, camping everywhere, and biking trails all over the place.
As you can tell this is a sad, but exciting time for Juliene and I!!!!
God bless all, and talk to you’all soon!!!
